Atop the Windmill is a bittersweet series of narrations that captures the heart of growing up bilingual/bicultural in rural New Mexico during the 1950s. This is contrasted with a period of living in Mexico, with all the identity complications that brings. "Am I or am I not Mexican/Mexican/American?" These stories also explore the linguistic complications of bilingual struggles and riches amid a language that is at the same time traditional and creative. Family photographs bring a face to enhance the stories.
