From Emily Harwood's arrival in New Mexico in 1869 until her death in 1902, she dedicated herself to reversing widespread illiteracy. With the support of her Methodist minister husband, Thomas, she was a major force in establishing the foundation for public education in New Mexico. Researcher Mary Hunt Webb's portrayal of Mrs. Harwood brings this remarkable educator to life and emphasizes her importance in New Mexico's history.
